What From the Water Rises

A collection of short stories from B. Pigeon & Fell A. Marsh

Fifty years have passed since the ocean god, Ezu-anvashe, raised an island in the gulf between empires.

Shortly after, the original explorers of the land declared their independence from their home countries of Sehmera and Mesaanot—and their patron god has fiercely defended their freedom ever since, retaliating against any attempt to claim the land or its people. The island, named Ilse Ezu in honor of its creator, has since become a destination for those hoping to start a new life or hide under the sea god’s protection: Sehmeri aristocrats vying for a different kind of power, wizards who long to test the limits of human power, criminals, pirates, outcasts, cultists, and even a young prince in hiding.

But tensions between the empires have only continued to increase, and both plot to reclaim the island they’ve been denied access to. Follow the stories of the original explorers and the newcomers adjusting to life on the island, as a small nation tries to stay above water under the pressure of two kingdoms.
